Our highway system is a powerful symbol of American potential. It allows migration, communion, even transformation. But we take it for granted. There is great beauty here—moments where angles and textures and light come together in unexpected ways. I made it my mission to capture some of these moments.
All of these images were shot from moving cars, frequently while I was driving. It's probably not something I would recommend for everyone. But there's something I find reassuring about this work.
The on-ramps and cloverleafs and overpasses we travel on are astounding feats of engineering. But they are more than that. They are living sculptures, timeless American icons, both fixed and ever-changing.
